Especially Committed Bangladeshi Companies Receive the STeP by OEKO-TEX® Certificate for Sustainable Textile Production

Bangladesh / Germany – Textiles and clothing are the leading industry of Bangladesh. For Bangladeshi companies, sustainability is often key to position themselves as responsibly acting businesses and to achieve global success. On 21 January 2016, Prof. Dr. Stefan Mecheels, CEO of the Hohenstein Institute and Jörg Diekmann, Director International sales Hohenstein Institute presented the STeP certificates on behalf of the OEKO-TEX® Association to the management of both companies.

Indeed, the companies prove their comprehensive commitment with regard to environmental protection, sustainability and social responsibility with their certification in accordance with STeP by OEKO-TEX®. This also enables them to communicate the services they provide in these areas credibly and transparently to the public. For the STeP certification, all company areas with relevance to sustainable production and social conditions were first analyzed using a web-based assessment tool. This included the handling of chemicals and possible hazardous materials, environmental performance measured by using a wide range of criteria, the implementation of an environmental management system, company responsibility in relation to employees, as well as an efficient quality management system and health and safety in the workplace.

STeP (Sustainable Textile Production) by OEKO-TEX® is an independent certification system with which brands, retail companies, and manufacturers from the textile chain can prove and communicate their achievements regarding sustainable production to the public in a clear and transparent manner. Certification is possible for production facilities of all processing stages from fibre production, spinning mills, weaving mills, and knitting mills to finishing facilities and manufacturers of ready-made clothes. © OEKO-TEX®
